NEXT LEVEL PERFORMANCE IN THE LIGHT SPORT-INTERMEDIATE CLASS

The Swift 4 is alightweight development of the Rush 4, weighing in at an incredible 1300g lessthan the Rush 4 (in the MS size). Constructed with a hybrid mix of light andultra-light materials, the Swift 4 offers SharkNose solidity and high levels ofperformance in a lightweight, compact package. The original Swift not only seta new standard for a class of wings, it also created a new class of paraglider.Lightweight, agile, with top of class performance and a lively but balancedfeel in the air, the latest edition of the Swift series has benefitted from theperformance breakthroughs that have made our sport-performance class wings, such as the Delta series, so popular. With a Delta 2 type arc, mini ribs andplastic nose reinforcements, 57 cells for a super clean leading edge, and a 25%reduction in total line drag compared to its predecessor, the Swift 4 is themost efficient wing we have ever produced in the category.

LIGHT TECH

The Swift 4’s complexhybrid lightweight construction blends design techniques from the Geo serieswith features from the LM5, which dominated the 2013 RedBull X-Alps, and theAlpina 2, which has broken several vol-biv performance records during itstenure. The result is an impressive level of durability and lightness, in aglider that fits comfortably in the top of the Sport-Intermediate class. TheSwift 4’s weight has been reduced and optimized not only by changing the mainsurface cloths of the Rush 4, but by carefully tuning hundreds of designfeatures throughout the wing. Its leading edge is constructed from N20D, whichhas proven to have the best longevity to weight ratio available in this classof fabrics. The trailing edge section, making up the majority of the topsurface, and the bottom surface, are both constructed from Porcher Skytex 27gcloth, used for many years in our Ultralite series of wings and also ourhighest performance gliders such as the LM5.

Compared to the Rush 4,pilots will notice a crisper and more agile feel in the air. Thanks to thelight construction, the Swift 4 has more agile handling, increased feedback andhigher precision. The low weight gives it a sporty, dynamic character and is ingeneral a more sensitive wing. Due to these characteristics, it could be saidthat the Swift 4 has slightly elevated performance compared to the Rush 4,globally speaking.

TRUE PERFORMANCE IN FLIGHT

The Swift 4 features allof the best performance enhancing features that have made the Delta 2 and theRush 4 so popular including the new SharkNose, an advanced arc, and very lowline drag. Our testing has shown that, like the Rush 4, the Swift 4 is a wingthat will inspire confidence in active air. A moderate aspect ratio combinedwith the compact and predictable handling made possible by the SharkNose, theSwift 4 offers an impressive blend of ease of use, lightness, and performance. Thanks in part to its light construction, Swift 4’s launch characteristics areeven better than the Rush 4, with an easy-up inflation and a light and balancedfeel when ground-handling.

The Ozone SharkNose hasproven to be one of the most important innovations in the sport of paragliding,as it provides vastly better behavior in performance and stability at both highand low angles of attack. In accelerated flight, the SharkNose profile is morestable, with better inflow to the cell openings and less drag at the leadingedge. At slower speeds, and during intense brake inputs (for instance whilecoring tight thermals) the SharkNose profile is highly spin resistant, providing a longer and more progressive brake travel which the pilot can easilyuse to their advantage. THE PILOT

The Swift 4 sits betweenthe Geo 4 and the Alpina 2 in our range, and is our top of the lineLight-Sport-Intermediate class wing. Pilots who prioritize comfort over agilityin the intermediate or sport-intermediate classes, should look to the Geo 4.Pilots who want the maximum amount of performance and agility possible in thisclass will find the Swift 4 to be an excellent option. It is suitable for awide range of pilots, from recreation flyers to experienced XC hounds alike, however it is not suitable for training or low airtime pilots. We think theSwift 4 will satisfy even the most demanding pilots in the Sport-Intermediateclass, and maybe even tempt some pilots from more advanced classes. It makes anideal hike and fly / vol biv wing for demanding take off locations and longXC’s, and an excellent travel wing due to its low pack volume.

When the original Swiftwas finished, we at Ozone were extremely proud of the result and felt that thisnew class of wing would become a favourite amongst the world’s pilots in the ENB and C categories. Now that the Swift 4 is released, we are even more excitedto share our labours with you, and we hope that you enjoy this wing as much aswe have. Please let us know what you think, we love to hear from you.

THE CONCEPT:

The Swift 4 is based entirely on the Rush 4 design, and as such sharesdesigner notes with the Rush 4:

NEW FEATURES:

·        New sizes: MS and ML replace the M. Thisgives a total of five sizes and reduces the gap between sizes.

·        A new arc. The same arc used in the Delta2which was developed from the competition research project.

·        The AR has been marginally increased to5.55, remaining very close to the Rush 3. We believe this gives the rightbalance between performance and simplicity for this level of wing.

·        The Swift 4 features SharkNose technology. The forgiving nature of the profile atlow and high angles of attack sharpens the handling and gives a high level ofspin resistance. This allows the pilot to make deep brake inputs when necessaryto adjust the turn and bank angle as required.

·        At low angles of attack the SharkNoseprofile gives more solidity or collapse resistance than a ‘classic’ profile asused in the Swift 2 or Rush 3. This improves the True Performance -making itmore useable in turbulent conditions.

·        57 cells. This allows for a cleaner sail, therefore it is more efficient but it also helps us to achieve the desiredfeeling - a combination of precision and comfort.

·        Double Transversal Shaping gives an evencleaner LE, and Miniribs reduce drag at the TE.

·        3 Line design, with a reduction of 25%surface drag.
